Rear rack installation

The stock Stelvio rack is a tad small to carry much very far. The below solves this by creating a larger platform to strap dry bags or other luggage to. Future racks may include bobbins and brackets to mount a stock Trax rear case or a Givi box.

A few minutes on the drafting board:

Send it off to CAD:

Package in from the laser cutter...12ga. stainless:

Rear rack from factory:

Remove the rear rack plastic cover with (4) self-tappers:

What's left:

Rack installed with hardware:

Rack with Wolfman drybag strapped using Rok Straps (slots in rack line up with Wolfman's D-rings built into bag):

I'm not really set up to make and sell these racks on a retail basis. I will be setting up AF1 racing with racks that they will sell on their web page (provided they have stock and sell with decent volume).

UPDATE- The racks showed up on AF1's site LINKY HERE

    1. I don't understand your question. I don't sell the racks direct while AF1 has stock. AF1 should be able to hook you up with one.

  3. Any update on adding the bobbins for the Trax or Givi top boxes? Is there a DIY solution? Great rack BTW!

  4. Great blog and web pages! I've owned the KTM 950 Adventure, the R1200GS, and own a DR650 Suzook, R1200RT, and the new Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX as in this page. Great bikes all. I've kept the Vario top case and mounting plate from my R1200GS to mount on the Guzzi Stelvio NTX. Your rear rack looks great, but I'm concerned if the Vario mounting plate bolt holes will clear your rack's 'lightening holes'. I hate to order the rack, then find it needs to be returned. A hassle for all involved. If you don't have this mounting plate available, I could draw the mounting holes on a sheet of paper, scan, and email the drawing to you. Comments??

    1. I have this rack in a PDF file I could email to you....I also have a KTM rack for my 990 that I don't sell as that market is kind of flooded...

Hit me up at ADVrider or wildguzzi with a PM and your email. Same screen name as this blog...or back here with it and I will torch it after I send the file

  6. Hi Kirb,
I'm drivind a 2013 Stelvio - great bike! And I enjoy reading your blog with all the modificatipons you have done.
I'm very interested in the rack - but unfortenately shipping to germany is expensive (shipping cost, custom fee ...).
Could you please send me the PDF file (drawing incl. measures)?
    Regards, Wolfgang

  7. Looks like AF Racing no longer stocks these? Do you know if it's just temporary or available elsewhere? Thanks for sharing all your experienced modding of the Stelvio. Too bad they don't sell enough for a bigger after-market.

  8. I was curious if any Stelvio owners have removed the pillion and put a plate in that position? I'll set my (new to me- 2013) up like it's a solo saddle only. I'm using Micatech boxes so it would be perfect if the plate would "flush out" straight across the tops of the panniers. I know it's an old thread, but wondering if anyone out there has done this. Thanks All!
